Preface
There are a lot of great books on marriage filled to the brim with good information. They are often disguised in psychological and heady sounding phrases. This is not that book. Problem is, we didn’t fall in love in our heads, it happened in the heart. Marriage grows like an organic plant. It is breathing. It is cultivated and nurtured in the rich soil of our hearts. Our words are the seeds. We set out to write a book about marriage that sought to identify how to plant the right garden for your marriage future. How can someone be happy and married? We want both. If words can build and grow, and our long conversations have much to do with our early love, maybe we already know the right language. I call it a secret language since the world has abandoned it.
God has anointed your marriage for peace. There is a supernatural marriage that you can receive from the Lord. He is a miracle working God. You are going to win. You are, in this moment, investing in your future. Things are about to get better for you. Whether things are going great or maybe your marriage needs surgery, just reading this line has you moving in the right direction. Why? God wants your life to get better, and He’s positioning you right now because you have decided to get some new information, and He loves that. One of the ways Jesus brought change was by bringing the world some new information. He was always teaching. His words weren’t for your head either. He said, “My words are spirit and they are life.” Not head. Heart. This is where we are going. This is what makes this book different, and it also makes the adventure you are about to take different.
My wife and I are writing this together, so when we say “I” or “me” we mostly mean “we”, and it could be either one of us in that moment speaking to you. We are drawing on decades of praying with and coaching a pool of diverse backgrounds and situations in marriage. We are also pulling from our experiences of being married for many, many, many years… year after year… and another year. Wait, where was I? We are super happily married. Not every year has been perfect and we’ve had our share of battles that you can relate to. Mostly, we build each sentence of this book on the wisdom we have learned from God’s inescapable unadulterated truth, that is, the Word of God. I may not quote every Scripture, but if you’re listening for it, you will hear the Word of God resonating.
In this book we are going to present topics and principles that will have your marriage speaking a new language, one that actually works. In the coming chapters we will look at some of the most discussed issues in marriage.
